What we look for during an inspection.

Most hot water tanks do not fail all at once. Problems usually build slowly out of sight, inside the tank or hidden behind the insulation, until they become expensive leaks, water damage, poor water quality, or a full tank replacement.

That is why inspections matter.

During a HydraStone inspection, we look closely at the full condition of the tank and the key parts connected to it, including valves, tube bundles, anodes, and interior linings. We check for leaks, corrosion, soft or flaking lining, and other signs that the tank is starting to break down. Where needed, we also measure corrosion depth to understand how serious the damage is and what should happen next.

The goal is simple: catch problems early, before they become disruptive and costly.

When issues are found, there are often practical ways to extend the life of the tank without replacing it. Depending on the condition, that may mean a minor repair, targeted maintenance, or a full relining of the interior. In many cases, relining can be completed in a single day and costs far less than removing and replacing the tank.

Commercial hot water tanks are easy to ignore because the damage is usually hidden. But like any major building asset, they need regular attention to stay reliable. Left unchecked, these tanks corrode from the inside out. Over time, that can lead to leaks, rust-coloured water, service interruptions, and premature failure.

HydraStone has been inspecting and relining tanks across Canada since 1993. Our team helps property managers understand the true condition of their tanks, what risks may be developing, and what can be done now to avoid bigger problems later.
